It's not about the cult of personality, it's about the externalized manifestation of an abstract organizing principle. The "person" behind the personality becomes more like a conduit, a concept, with which the principle may operate. They place their faith in the principle. The "person" is seen as a God, or perhaps more accurately an inanimate object. A force of nature. People are fallible, people lie to you, people have needs. people have angles, people can fail, abandon, betray, and disappoint you. A force of nature, cannot. It is a stone in a sea of chaos, to which you may cast your anchor. Illuosry though it may be, as the Siren leading the men aground,

All religions function this way. They have an external organizing principle. Sometimes it is God. Sometimes it is race. Sometimes culture and a perceived "way of life". And so on. This is where you get the whole 5D chess mental gymnastics from. It is not unlike saying you cannot know the mind of tyhe creator, God works in mysterious ways! Look, my fellow man. Above us the Gods themselves do battle. You would claim to know their ways? Etc.

A lot of people need that place to put their faith. They need something to believe in, something they feel they can trust. Even if that is secretly a desire to trust oneself, and feel like part of something powerful.

I clicked for some IRL Kusanagi, but found a probable tranny instead. Such are these times.

It will come at a cost. Despite the bad reviews, Remember Me is a recent example of good sci-fi around external memory storage.

Some bullshit for for people who watched Star Trek, Ghost in the Shell, etc but didn't actually get it. They convince themselves there's an escape, any escape, but there is not.

I have literally 120 tabs open. It's a problem of manageability and recursion, sadly. How deep do you go?

You are correct. The 4chan tab must be closed. Goodbye 4chan.

Watch Ghost in the Shell, Texhnolyze, and Serial Experiments Lain. You desire to transcend and detach from your body, is futile. Ask yourself, can you build it? Can you manufacture parts to maintain it indefinitely? The answer is no. The limbs are slavery. Transhumanism is inseparably tying yourself to something else, it is dependency at its purest.

When my problems began, I started thinking in the same way. My advice is to accept your body, return to it, and find a way forward. Find your real issues.

Also, ignore all this "mental illness" crap. Yeah, your mind ain't workin' quite right that's for sure, but there are reasons for that. You don't need some label or name for it, like that fool who cut his legs off with a chainsaw or whatever it was.

Eventually, the AI will reach a point where either:
-Computation will be infeasible either due to local constraints or economic constraints on "non-local" computational farms.
-The AI will become so good a system cannot exist to reliably detect it even with a large input dataset.

So great. Now what you've done is:
-Move the control up a layer to those who can afford the equipment and or
-Those who control enough to monitor all information flow and therefore have a greater ability to sort the signal from the noise.
So now you've created centralized power over reality and truth. You might think you'll put out so much noise that you'll scramble these other groups and there'll have some flux going on, but there won't. Not for long. It'll all shake out and you'll have one or a few powerful groups. Then they'll form a syndicate. Then they'll unify. Every time.

I want to be left alone and have this ship start running on its own, and running right. I'm sick of all this bullshit by morons who think it'll be le epic to live in le cyberpunk, or whatever they've got in mind. No. We need to take this ship and start running it somewhere other than right into the ground, now.

This. I grew up with Ghost in the Shell and other related stuff.

Pretty much, the logic is based on the observation that certain machines are way better than you in certain tasks. A hydraulic arm can lift more and hold a fixed position easily. Electromechanical devices like can openers can rotate things much better. Etc. The problem is it can't be readily extended to a general purpose system that has the range of the human body. Just because some systems are better, doesn't mean you can make one system that is better for everything.

What anime is that from? "Even with a thousand years, your skill would never match mine!" Or words to that effect.

It sounds so familiar. Was it Rurouni Kenshin?
