OK, really.

A bunch of "artists" and possibly Elon stuck inside a tin can for a week.

Will they endure a rehab before the trip or will they select only non smokers, drinkers and drug users?

Maybe they take some pills to endure the withdrawal?

My bet is that there's gonna be vaping and alcohol.

The thread that fell off yesterday got me to thinking that we really can't just drop some humans on Mars and be done with it. I already knew about the orbital situation where it takes ~6 months to go one way and ~18 months to go back, or you can stay for a year and take ~6 months to go back.

The numbers people were throwing around about how much energy would be needed to generate return trip fuel on-planet looked pretty bad. It seems we really should do the Mars Direct thing, launch an unmanned ship first and not send humans out until their ride home is ready. Given the two-year cycle for favorable orbits, it could take two or three cycles before we'd be ready to send humans.

I should start SSing every nihilistic space colonization post for a glorious colab to post on the day that we land on mars for the first time

come now lad people have been telling you the reasons for a long time at this point

>There's probably only a few planets that match Earth in the galaxy anyways
considering how many are "earthlike" within 100 light years I'd say that this isn't the case

government on a newly colonized mars will likely be very oppressive and socialist out of necessity
food needs to be rationed, housing needs to be managed, etc. etc. if the colony is going to survive. No place for social stratification in a small(ish) offworld colony

Considering the current budget, I do not think NASA can afford shilling on an european woodcrafting forum.
