>Isnt it time we move this over to /pol/?
pic rel but you raise a good point. the reason not to go into Awesome Opinions mode is basically b/c most Awesome Opinions are ultimately /pol/ territory, which is to say, the Winter Phase. this is why ranting is the poor man's essay.

one anon made a copy of this thread in the last edition and moved it to /pol/ to see how it would be received there (not well) and #3 was moved to /his/ with similar result. /g/ has been proposed also. /g/ is not where this belongs.

Land threads have been on /lit/ for a while but i will take your comments under consideration as a reminder not to rant. how's that? when there are relevant philosophy texts to discuss - and at least while Uncle Nick is releasing his own Black Ice &c, there are - i would prefer that this remain where it is, and i will update my journal accordingly v/Awesome Opinions, which are - i agree - unbecoming. for every rant there is a counter-rant, and ranting shows a lack of refinement.

this is what i'm talking about, although i feel like the down-curve on despair should go through the edges of the frame, with maybe a little red bit poking up to suggest the possibility of a return to the mean which is not guaranteed.

>We need deep time to think, the idea obviously does not come from the earth or sun but from the stars, from this infinite stellarity at the heart of the empty form of time, at the essence of immanent duration this moment ‘recurs’ for the first time and incipit everything, all of philosophy falls from the sky, the dust from a meteorite, an interiority crystallizing from contact with an alien macrobiota, a tiny fragment of another universe slowly transvaluating the cosmos around it.

>To do philosophy is to superpose a black hole and the brain.

>Philosophy is this black hole of time which cannot stop eating existence whole, it sucks insistently all of the vortex of history into its intersubjective hyper-interiority, its god-complex of constructivism which assembles a university from literally nothing, from empty air.

I guess I went a little too far with that "despisal" thing. I am actually a huge cinema buff, and I can't understand the appeal of a book format. Not only do I find a rich combination of sound, picture and performance unmatched by a single-stream narrative encrypted in thousand of letters, but I can't imagine wasting days of lecture only to find out that the book I chose sucks, when I can get over a bad film in 2 hours flat.

My favourite example is probably Un homme qui dort by Georges Perec. The 1974 film is literally excerpts from the book accompanied by sound and picture. I can't help but to look at the bare text as incomplete and ultimately hindered experience. Or like a movie script waiting to be developed.

The only case where I have to recognize literature's advantage is belles-lettres which has a well-founded reason to exist in book form. Yet this is such a small portion of the bookshelves that it just baffles me why in this day and age books haven't faded into oblivion.

The only thing I really despise are self-proclaimed "reading people" suggesting that they are superior to "not reading people" when their shelves consist of nothing but shitty fantasy books. And I'm pretty sure if I showed them the already mentioned adaptation without telling where the script came from, they would call it artsy-fartsy bullshit. Fuck those enlightened individuals. I'd rather stick to cinema I appreciate rather than stare at words on the bus pretending I gain some secret value in the process.

Let me tell you about the literary lifestyle:
>you wake up at 4:00 and brush your teeth
>you eat a yoghurt with cornflakes, grapes and coffee
>you write for 4 hours
>then you go for a half hour run, shower quickly and go to university studying for a useless degree, no matter whether STEM or liberal arts
>when you ahve no lectures you are at the university library studying the material
>at 17:00 you go to the elderly care residence where you clean old peoples' asses and make their beds
>at 20:30 you return home, prepare for gym where you lift weights for an hour
>You shower, then read a book for half an hour until 22:00 when you sleep
>whenever you can browse /lit/ and /pol/ and despair a little more

When you are older you can switch the 8 hours of uni with more reading, work and perhaps a walk. Forget the learned literary circles meeting together to discuss books. Forget /lit/ girls or bros. The /lit/ lifestyle is one of solitude. You will cease to be able to connect to people and people will try to avoid you in return.

How can someone do so many productive things but still not get anything done?

I need to get these journal applications done and submitted but it seems like every little chore is getting in the way. Today I worked out, read for 20 minutes, practiced guitar, wrote in my journal, cooked and ate, did the dishes, took out the trash and recycling, prepared for classes next week, cleaned out the car, organized the pantry, wrote some emails. I spend time in between tasks watching stupid youtube videos and smoking cigarettes. This list of normal human behavior seems like an accomplishment to me. But I still have to find a job and submit those god damn law journal applications.

Writing a story where a group of redneck neo-nazis manage to build a portal to Hell, where Hitler, who has been immunized to the hellfire by a ritual he completed just before his suicide, is waiting. They send through war supplies and soon Hitler poses a major threat to Satan's reign, so the Prince of Lies commands a Satanic cult (made up entirely of jaded ultrawealthy teenagers and young adults in California) to go get it back. The Satanists and neo-Nazis end up in conflict on both planes, and they have to recruit regular people to sell them their souls to power the portals. Everyone in America is convinced to sell their soul to one of the two armies on the basis of how much worse it would be if the other group won and conquered Earth.
The idea came to me last Fall and is supposed to be a metaphor for the U.S. electoral system. It's maybe the most reddit thing I've ever done.
