You know that audible has the function to increase playback speed, right?
>he doesn't listen to books at a faster speed than he can read them.
>not using 3x speed on audible
>not listening to books while you drive, work, and in situations where you can't pull out a book.

She's obsessed with kierkegaard and bought me tickets to go see an andy warhol exhibition with her at the high museum of art last weekend
When I visited chicago I bought her this really cool leatherbound copy of all of milton's poems from 1936 and when I got back I showed her the beginning of the third book of PL where he talks about how he hoped god would use his blindness to show him more and she cried

Is a moderate amount of pessimism a good trait to look for in a woman?

I had a discussion about this with my public speaking course, and when I shared with the class that I valued pessimism, the entire class gasped so hard that I felt like I was being sucked into their ideologies. I then had to defend myself, explaining that what I wanted wasn't pragmatism nor cynicism.

I used to be an ugly friendless loser. I started running every day, paying attention to how I dress, and generally working on self-improvement and my life got better in every way. Don't ever get stuck in the endless /r9k/ misery olympics, go out and actually put effort into yourself.

Andy Warhol is garbage though. I'm not just saying that to be edgy either, every artist influenced by him and every critic who likes him proves me here.

Also, I have yet to know anyone who loves Kierkegaard and actually applies him. The last person I met who "loves Kierkegaard" was a Catholic woman who slept around with both sexes. Kierkegaard is real demanding, but those who "love" him and read him a lot seem to just care about the intellectual stimulation he provides, his ideas are treated like toys.

A fat girl, but with good bone structure, who's a devout Catholic, is intelligent, and is open to learning. She doesn't have to be well-read right when we meet. She just has to be willing to take a chance on reading, and be intelligent enough to enjoy it. It would be nice if she liked Borges after reading the di Giovanni translations.

I need two.

1: the stone coldest dyke you can imagine. short hair, cowboy hat, wears flannel. Probably a construction worker. I want to bring her food on her lunch breaks. Likes to rest her arms on my shoulders.

2: a small latina/italia/espanola, long dark hair, short, big brown eyes, feisty, bites when she kisses you and then laughs. Snuggles into your chest, wraps her arms around your waist.

I need dominance and submission. God, I'm already in love. Actually I already know 2. but you know how it goes.

I believe that it's the hyperawareness of the possibility that anything can go wrong in a given situation, and in order to avoid being adversely affected, you constantly need to plan and adapt yourself to keep those fears in check.

Someone in my class said that I might have confused pessimism for cynicism, but I believe that cynicism is just a symptom of the former. To my understanding, cynicism is the inclination to believe that people act solely out of self-interest.

I hate optimism, because it can make you blind and unaware if you have too much.

Cynicism is the rejection of social convention in favor of a virtuous life, that is, of living in accordance with nature and dedication to self improvement. The most prominent Cynics idolized Hercules, not a figure that resembled the underground man.

>> No.9787692

>>9787649
Just to expand on this because I love saying it, but the most mainstream example of Cynical values is Jesus Christ, who may have been written in that way to appeal to and ultimately subvert the era of Cynicism in Rome, because people who live and beg in the streets and do nothing but work out and jerk off don't make for a strong empire
