I apologize for being such a pleb, but is it necessary to read more ironic books before working on Infinite Jest? Wasn't he critical how we were becoming cynically ironic through everything that we do? Who are some authors that can help me understand irony better? Please don't roast

I was lambasted by my stoner aesthetics lecturer for being an english/philosophy major and not having read Infinite Jest. Its a small lecture, literally just the two of us. How long does it take to read that hunk of gunk? Afterwards he patted me on the shoulder and told me not to be afraid of it.
