I didn't know anything at all about the mans personal opinions but now that I do I cant help but project "alt-rightish" motivations onto whatever he says. Silly, I know. I think he's probably beyond that level of discussion.

Nonetheless, and as incredibly lame of me it is to say, his measured yet impassioned take on things impressed me and even helped me climb out of a pretty deep hole. I'm not a well read man and I struggle to snuff out a cheap rhetorician but he has my praise. For what it counts.

Jordan B Peterson

He's a professor at the University of Toronto and a clinical psychologist. He first became known around here because his class lectures were uploaded to youtube.

He's also gained more notoriety on here lately for his tangle with the University regarding his public objection, and rejection to follow Bill C-16 with its plethora officially recognized trans-gender pronouns. Peterson refuses to call people by any of these pronouns because he thinks they are clumsy, first of all, and that they are limiting free speech in a way that leads down the road to far-left totalitarianism. He says that it's one thing to come up with a list of things that you Can't say to someone for reasons of limiting hate-speech, which Peterson is fine with, but it is an entirely different thing to make a law that states what you Have to say.

"If the standard transsexual person wants to be regarded as he or she, my sense is I'll address you according to the part that you appear to be playing," he said.
But he argues terms like "gender identity' and "gender expression" are too broad, are the "propositions of radical social constructionists," and are being used to bully opponents into submission."

he's not anti-trans, he just thinks that libs are falling for idpol buzzword bullshit (they are)

>> No.8781886

>>8779797
That's not what he's saying. He's saying you need a framework in order to make things meaningful. This isn't what Stirner was opposing, in fact it's part of his Creative Nothing; what Stirner says is that you have a choice in your framework and that the framework ultimately serves your cause, so saying it isn't makes no sense and is there only for you to control others. Peterson gives the framework he thinks is best but he's not against you having different opinions; in fact, any time he talks about shamans or artists he points out to how they're people who defy these frameworks, but that that has a level of danger to it and shouldn't be expected of everyone in society.

Approaching contemporary nihilism as an individual issue of pathology is all wrong. Nihilism hasn't just become so prevalent because of individuals irrationally rejecting traditional belief systems or their impotence to craft individual narratives for their own lives but the actual real decomposition of any collective social basis. Capitalism and liberalism are nihilistic and make nihilists, you can't just teach and expect people to act differently within within a gigantic nihilistic institution, you can only medicate if you really want to get different activity.

They want only their ideas to be accepted, and everyone else to be punished for thinking different.

Their strength is they wrap this all up in a simple to understand package of, "Well, all we want is for the poor transgendered to be treated with respect, what's wrong with that?" that the average twitter minded person can push the like button and get behind.

All revolutionaries think that. Once the old regime is overthrown, they'll turn on each other. Petersen's big mistake is thinking these people can be reasoned with.
