Did /lit/ like Dial H?

Whats /lit/ think about comics anyway?

Are they seen as inferior to prose round these parts?

Mainstream comics are for manchildren. There are some manga/comics/graphic novels that are equal to modern literature. I was deeply moved by the anime Ping Pong and the manga Kokou no Hito. They are actually experimenting and trying to break new ground using effort rather than imitating the canon or trying to appeal to millenials like a lot of modern lit.

I agree that picturebooks are the correct format for socialist preaching, but I've reached the age where I'm looking for something more sophisticated.

Dial H was really good but I feel like I'm the only one other than OP who read it.

I feel like costume design is one of the weaker aspects of Watchmen, actually. Besides Rorschach and Dr. Manhattan everyone has fairly bland designs.

I was hoping somebody would dispute this.

I did, and it was one of the most pleasant surprises I had with a cape comic ever.

Tbqh, the designs are reworkings, and even Doc Manhattan's original hero, Firestorm, is shit. The only one who actually looks nice (even better than the Watchment counterpart) is The Question

This is "I want to be an adult but also read my funnybooks" discourse 101. If someone said they only read books who "break new ground" instead of "imitating the canon" on /lit/ or /mu/ (not that /mu/ has good taste, but still), how mocked do you think you'd be?

Indeed, and of course you only know which funnybooks 'break new ground' by knowing the territory.

The designs are reworkings, but that doesn't dispute that the reworkings are fairly boring. Even the animal-pet-thing Ozymandias had wasn't too interesting to look at.

And Manhattan was primarily a reworking of a character called Captain Atom, actually.

Yeah, I agree with you, the designs are boring af, what I'm saying is that Gibbons didn't have a lot to work with, actually.

Oh, Captain Atom makes more sense than Firestorm (both designes are pretty bad, though)
