School me, /lit/. What are the most essential lefty books? I mean both classics and contemporary works. I'm a reactionary and I want to learn more about the other side

Orientalism is a good starting point.

Get ready to fall asleep though, all leftist literature is not known for being easy to read.

Hey OP, this anon is right, but crit theory can sometimes be terribly sad and terribly banal, so I would recc. the Yale OpenCourse video series wherein Dr. Paul Fry teaches a semester worth of Intro to Literary Theory. If you can't do the work of finding that on YT, just be yourself, don't change, and live in quiet-ignorance.

Kisses,
Grisha

>Michel Foucault
It's so strange how admired this guy is. He lied about history, stole some ideas from Nietszche and in general lived the life of a lazy caricature by the right. He was the trustafarian that made it.

Nietzsche

not even kidding. Ignore what his sister did to that poor man's work

Although he was a not a traditional conservative Nietzsche was intensely anti-egalitarian and elitist. I don't think it's good to advise him to someone looking for "essential" lefty books. Unambiguous leftist books such as Das Kapital fit better.

>>7344342
And in the later part of his life he was lured by neo-liberalism. Really not somebody to recommend for someone looking for orthodox leftists.

Except Capital is huge and dull, better to recommend the manifesto.

If you want a bite sized Capital then I'd recommend Wage Labour and Capital over the Manifesto.

I think you need to read Nietzsche again

Alinsky is based but he doesn't really give his opinions so much as advice on organization. Still, he's a conservative bogeyman, so he's worth checking out.
