I had garbage grades until the 12th grade. I blame neglectful teachers. I was into politics, philosophy, cartoons AND video games. I still sort-of am. My investment in the IQ test has gone way way down since I was 12 (I think it's dumb) but ironically my score has gone up.

>feel inadequate

>stop taking classes seriously
>become friends with skateboarders and gamers
>feel more comfortable in my skin but decide that school is for lozers
>make 0 effort toward exams because I decide I'll just be an artist lol
>get poor grades all around in my GCSEs
>go to college (Optional last two years of high-school for our American friends)
>start to smoke weed
>rekindle interest in literature
>start reading Huxley, Thompson, Dostoevsky, Salinger etc.
>go on to read better authors
>become very interested in the Romantics and later the Modernists
>Put more effort into my studies and leave college with straight As
>go on to study Literature at near-top-level University

My biggest regret in life is going through puberty. If I hadn't gone through that 5-6 year patch of not reading I'd be much smarter today.

This "intelligence" or "intellect" you speak of is entirely irrelevant. If Einstein watches anime all day and every day, his intellect amounts to nothing. The "hard working but mentally impaired person" _works_, which is what matters.

Almost anyone can learn calculus by 15. Push almost any 7 year old kid a bit harder than school does and he'll understand calculus by 15, I guarantee it.

No. Perhaps they weren't aware of what there is to learn. Perhaps whatever they were doing was just good enough for them. Perhaps they didn't care at all. It doesn't matter. Whatever people call "smartness" is completely irrelevant, please stop talking about it.

I think this is a really importent thing to remember. I found that in many occasions the "geniuses" are simply the ones who are interested enough in somthing, or love somthing enough to put alot of effort into it. Many people are capable of doing greater things than they will probably do.

I could sure as hell master calculus by 15 if I really wanned to, and so does most of /lit/, for sure. Most people just... don't really care about those stuff.

If I was exposed to poetry earlier in my life and decide to read and write my ass off, I could probably write like rimbaud at 16, but I obviously never did.

Nah, pushing kids can often go disastrously wrong, because parents forget that kids can push back.

You force your kid to study endlessly from a young age there's a 50/50 chance that there'll be a backlash and they end up straight up running away to become a burnout stoner.

And the only person to blame is the parent, because children are not self-aware enough to be held accountable for the end results of their actions.

Not saying it can't work, but it sure as hell didn't on me.
