Philosophy is the most important field of human thought.

STEM fields are almost entirely plebeian (pure mathematics is an exception). Engineering is entirely plebeian.

I don't agree, but I think that those that truly believe that they are meant to be philosophers should be able to philosophize in peace and dedicate themselves to their passion. Unfortunately, there's no place in the modern world where one can do that other than academia or some kind of cult/commune.

Yes
>STEM fields are almost entirely plebeian (pure mathematics is an exception). Engineering is entirely plebeian.
No

>> No.6865137

Sir, before you denounce any activity as plebeian, you must first present your credentials as a member of the Equestrian or Patrician classes.

Else your opinions on the fields of study best suited to particular Roman social classes, are themselves of a plebeian nature, and such would be laughed out of senate forthwith.

>> No.6865146

Why is STEM plebeian? Are trades also plebeian? Hypothetically anyone can be a philosopher who attempts to know their self.

>> No.6865148

Its not that hard to get a philosophy degree, get through the logic, set theory and metaphysics first year modules and then you can choose history of philosophy, political philosophy and even gender modules

You get some incredibly smart philosophy grads, but a few mediocre ones too

Getting a STEM degree isn't too hard neither. You have to study, but anyone with an average mind could do it with some work.

Both STEM and philosophy are importent, philosophy is under-apappreciated, but it's no reason to reject science.

I wouldn't know, but it would seem to be pretty difficult to do a maths degree at a top university that didn't involve lots of dense maths.

There's a massive disparity in how difficult say modal logic or philosophy of language modules are in comparison to gender and philosophy or early modern philosophy IMO

Nothing against STEM in general, but I wonder about engineers particularly, does the engeineering make them into soulless autist or is that pre-requisite for it.

>> No.6865364

>>6865261
It's mutually constitutive.

STEMfags are usually so un-reflexive they cannot think about the larger context of their work. They confuse the capitalist value of their occupation with true social/individual excellence. STEM is basically a pipeline to drive the upper middle class consumer economy.

Even worse is when they actually try to speak philosophically they subscribe to the most pleb-tier form of scientism that treats science as value-neutral and the only objective route to knowledge.

They don't ever seem to question being an engineer for big oil or a software engineer for big data has ethical implications.

>X for greedy bourgeois capitalist
>Y for abused proletariat
It doesn't really matter which is which because you always twist it with enough patience throw in a few critical terms such alienation, consumer ideology, use value sign value etc If anyone disagrees say that it simply demonstrates how entrenched they are in Bourgeois ideology

Marxism is nothing more than ultimately an attempt to resituate power relations in a more favourable context, as I indicate through terms clearly invested with power relations, and the fact that there are more than two classes such as the peasants and the petit-bourgeois is of no consequence because the implied end result of the dialectic has in the finish quite simply the proletariat squaring off against the high bourgeois.
