Is it just me or does anyone else detect an inferiority complex with writers in regards to painters. The way some writers write/speak about painters comes off as if they really want to be taken as seriously as a painter. It's as if they see painting as the ultimate media while they want people to hold their works of literature to that same regard, but know in the bottom of their hearts they'll never have the artistry of a painter.

Artists are usually jelly as fuck about any other medium.

film makers like novelists, novelists like painters, painters like sculptors, sculptors are autistic and love dancers, dancers like movies. Everyone has a love/hate with poets

Its the nature of self expression. Mediums allow for different things and you get to 'feel' the limitations of your own medium sometimes.
The writer sometimes has a painting in his head, and the only way he can get it out is to talk about it.

Does the occupation of characters also matter to you guys? Ultimately as long as the book is good that's all that matters however if a main character is an academic or an author, I'm kind of turned off.
