anyone know where to start in this giant ass series? I am a bit confused with the canon thing Disney announced last year, and just want to read through the story line from the beginning (if thats what you're supposed to do) anybody here into reading star wars legends and star wars canon?

WHY.

JUST WHY.

I like star wars and want to better understand the characters, and learn more about the star wars galaxy and events leading up to the movies and how the events further unfolded after (and between) the movies

So disney is going to retcon the shit out of star wars. I bet those autists at wookiepedia are not best pleased. I imagined something like this would happen, rebranding the old "literature" as "Legends" top kek. It serves people right for getting invested in this unoriginal crap. Why don't you read some original SF instead of giving disney jew gold.

I used to read all this shit when I was a kid. Obvious starting point is the first three Timothy Zahn books, which take place 5 years after ROTJ. Also check out the x wing books, which were pretty good, along with I Jedi, although the latter takes place during the Jedi Academy trilogy.
The three 'tales' books of short stories are probably the best thing in the EU.

After the new jedi order shit starts, the already poor quality writing just plummets.

Honestly your time would be better used reading something else.

>where to start
Don't.
Star Wars is terrible fiction OP it will rot your mind
Read proper sf

Star Wars lit is shit. If you want to read the EU read the comics. Marvel is just about to start reprinting a complete chronological set.

Very able genre writer.

His non-franchise books are fun as well, particularly The Icarus Hunt.

The best star wars book of all time is the tales from jabbas palace. Just read that and call it a day.

I guess shadows of the empire is up there as well.

I'm also wondering if anyone read the terry brooks novelization of episode one. Is it better than the movie?

It sounds like shit on top of shit.

Better than the movie but still pretty garbage. I remember the episode 3 novelization being significantly better than the movie.

Are the first three novelizations in there? I would start and end there.

Who ghost wrote those BTW? I really liked all three novelizations of episodes 4, 5 and 6. Was it Alan dean foster?

ADF wrote the first, and also the mysterious Splinter of the Mind's Eye. Donald F Glut wrote ESB and (I just looked it up) James Kahn wrote the third.

The Jedi Academy trilogy is worth reading. Looks like you've got Dark Apprentice at least. The Tales books are all good too.

there are mostly movie era and onward. I prefer the old republic books.

The Bane triliogy is my favorite so far, but death troopers was really good too.
