"AND BUT SO" DAVID FOSTER "CHILD" WALLACE.

It always stuck me as strange that Wallace lists Carver as an influence, yet went on about a "new-sincerity" movement so much. Carver is about as sincere and affectless as a writer can be, his later stuff especially, when he wasn't being butchered by Lish.

the original image is of some dude on facebook talking about how cool he is in the 'video game world'

that image is much sadder, david foster wallace led a privileged and successful life, he had nothing to complain about, and he certainly wasn't a 'loser' in either the literary or the 'real' world

I feel like I'm in free fall whenever I think of the poor soul.

I assumed the OP was relating to the sentiment in the picture, not feeling bad for David Foster Wallace.

it was just a sort of colloquial bent to the way he started off paragraphs and the like -- it's in some interview he did, but spec. which one I forgot, but it has to do with sometimes in conversations the next thing said is a clarification, and an extrapolation, and an example, etc. (hella paraphrase) he was trying to convey that same sorta thing
