Halo fans of /lit/: Are the two newest novels worth getting into? I swore off Halo games after 4 because of 343i's fan fiction crap, but are the novels still okay (except Karen Travisses stuff of course)?

People on /lit/ don't read video game tie-in novels. Go ask /v/.

That's like asking /lit/ what their favorite of the Godzilla novel series is.

I've read advance copies to review them both. There's not nearly enough leprechaun sex to hold my attention.

In support of OP. The Halo books are actually pretty good sci-fi.

The Halo universe is pretty amazingly detailed, the books are hit and miss (Cole Protocol sucked) but the universe is better than most sci-fi

>>6292436
I haven't read any of them since Evolutions (short stories) which ones since are worth reading?

I really enjoyed Fall of Reach. I can't find my first edition paperback anymore though.

Fall of Reach was amazing. Top tier sci-fi

You mean it amazingly copies other better sci-fi universes?

I've read the first four way back when I was still a young lad. I really do need to go through them all again. Any I should skip outright?

Also, haters get fucked.

Out of the first 4? None, they're all pretty solid.

>> No.6296056

Nah I mean overall. I know the first four are solid.

>> No.6296061

If you like Halo, I'd strongly recommend reading James SA Corey's "Expanse" novels. I 100% guarantee you will enjoy them.

Avoid cole protocol, it's pretty forgettable. Loved Contact Harvest. Greg Bears Forerunner Trilogy is GOAT. Some of the short stories in Evolutios are great. Avoid the Kilo 5 trilogy like the plague. I'm still in the middle of finding out how New Blood and Broken Circle are

>Avoid the Kilo 5 trilogy like the plague
Is it really that bad? Does it have any lore/plot elements which are important to the whole universe or is it self contained?

If I skip that then I only have the forerunner trilogy, New Blood and Broken Circle to catch up on.

Ill admit I actually enjoyed Glasslands a little bit, but the Thursday Ear was a slog and Mortal Dictata was just vomit

>> No.6296140

>>6296128
Is it worth just reading Glasslands then? I've heard that it continues on from Ghosts of Onyx and I want to follow up what happens to Halsey. I've also heard that the trilogy ties in with Halo 4 a lot

>> No.6296194

>>6296140
It does. It's worth a try. They're all worth a try for yourself, maybe I'm just a pleb and they're secretly good or something, I don't know.

I'm not a huge fan of them. imo the Human/Forerunner/Precursor stuff is was more interesting than the Covenant.

Care to elaborate? Every sci fi universe is copying other universes now. Just depends on how they weave the different aspects together, which Halo does pretty well.
