>What do you think of the Baroque/Gothic eras, /lit/?
I hope you make a difference between the two.
Gothic architecture is fine : it's the natural evolution of pure roman architecture in somehing more detailed and higher.
Baroque architecture on the other hand looks very decadent to me, the symptom of a corrupted church, one of the reasons why God is dead.

This is probably a good place to ask. But I recall a "what you read, what you expected, what you got" thread a while back where for Gravity's Rainbow somebody put in "what I got" this Bruegel/Bosch-esque landscape of scatological fuckery which I think included a naked, large-breasted girl dual-wielding machine guns and having swastikas for nipples, all pixelated as if it was taking place in an old video game. I had the name of the artist for a while, some Japanese guy, I think, and was looking at an entire gallery of his work, all of which are done in the same pixelated style, but now I forgot. Anyone?

From 1949 until his death in 1976, Josef Albers created a series of paintings titled Homage to the Square. These works explore the artist's endless fascination with the discrepancy between how colors look when seen one at a time and how they appear in different combinations. In his writings on color theory, Albers noted that the way we experience color varies based on our individual personalities and on factors such as hue, dimension, and placement.

Albers chose the square for its neutrality: he felt that such a common shape would not distract viewers from their experience of color. To create a "pure" experience, he applied his pigments directly from the tubes in which they came, spreading them in thin layers onto the surface of the canvas.

As with writing, different mediums come with different methods of creation.

I forget where I read it, but there was some study done (iirc) that had said that people write differently when it comes to how they're writing: with pen and paper, or on a keyboard, or on a touch screen, etc.

I assume it's the same with drawing. The things one creates, and how they're created, are tied hand in hand with the actual medium of creation. You probably wouldn't end up drawing the same thing with oil/canvas as you would with paper and pastel "crayons, or on a notebook with a pencil, etc.

OH HELL, I'M ALWAYS LATE FOR THE PARTY!

Anyway, I still have to post some nice Carlo Maria Mariani in one of these threads for /lit/ to see. He's a contemporary painter who does figurative painting - which is the only kind of painting that actually matters. He's a little bit artificial, but I know nothing better in contemporary art (if you do, please tell me), so I kind of admire his courage of doing such type of work in these depressing times.
