Yeah. I have an IQ of less than 70 and am unable to think, just like most academics.

It is for these reasons, and certainly not because there is no contextual indication whatsoever that the word "inauthentic" (which is commonly used, I'm told) is meant in a "Heidegger"ian sense, that I'm asking you to stop.

We all do. That's why the discussions on this website are so fucking wretched, and the posters all seem so hopelessly lost in their own inadequacies and oblique miseries. This place is like a colony of Calhoun's beautiful ones, trapped with nothing better to do then enact their own societal, economic, and sexual frustrations through an elaborate farce of pedantic erudition based primarily on hasty Google searches and Wikipedia skims. The result is simultaneously an echochamber of the worst form of uncritical, antagonistic political biases and conceptions (the "autistic fascist faggot" phenomena of /pol/), and a hugbox of mutually affirmed lack of agency and socio-political potency (explemfied best by /r9k/). Invariably every dialogue ends with an erected wall of enmity that prevents any constructive discourse from taking place ala >>6141979 and the endless cycle of self-defeat continues.

This website is a graveyard of ambitions, why expect anything other than enacted frustration? As the original demographic of this site (YA nerds, gamers, otaku etc) came of age and realized they had no easily discernible place in their society, nor any ambitions fostered through their hobbies/interests, they retreated deeper into the anti-social pathologies that tend to be inculcated by insular hobbies like watching anime, and playing online videogames, and are ratified by the ideology on boards like /v/, /a/ etc. Thus post-2010 /r9k/, and /pol/, were born and they became shoutboxes for the conceptualization, codification and evolution of those anti-social pathologies and tendencies into the holistic socio-political ideology now found on this boards. This website is a truly fascinating case study of the culture that develops when you provide (essentially and ostensibly) unmoderated space for disenfranchised and self-defeated young men.

if someone is indeed being pretentious (for argument's sake), do you think saying "you're being pretentious" is going to convince them of their pretenses?

or would it be better to show them, reasonably, step-by-step, why they're being pretentious and why that's bad?

more importantly, if it's not particularly relevant, why not set it aside and respond to the content directly?

if someone is being pretentious, and they're dialogueing with someone who isn't, then the truth will out.

i don't know why i type this, it literally doesn't matter what i say, you'll have something to reply with, and then i'll have something to reply with, and then we'll both have wasted 30 minutes but both be entirely certain the other was wrong and we "wrekt" them, but in fact we'll have won nothing except putting another brick in the wall of our own self-assuredness.

why?

Hi anon. Interesting take and something I'm sure we all feel to a degree.

What is your opinion about why so many men in our generation found this type of living preferable?

Did we lose our agency? (I would say mostly no)

So what makes this life better? The /pol/ part of the culture would have ready-made explanations for why this generation is so catastrophically fucked it doesn't even make sense to leave the basement and try in the outside world.

Do you see any utility in these explanations? Has SJW/social marxism/feminism destroyed men and women? Is our reaction understandable?

Was there anything we could have done differently? Is there any solution now?

Keep talking.

I'm not really able to answer those questions without recourse to ideology. The aim of my two posts was to critically highlight my perception of the ideology that has sprung forth, or at the very least been inculcated and best represented by, 4chan. Those are all questions worth asking, but in asking them it presupposes the coherent ideology it questions, an ideology worth close examination in and of itself.

Ok real talk. I was a smart kid, got off track around age 15. started using internet for hours a day, you know the story. then it was pot and booze. i'm moving away from it finally, but i still hate all of this.

we're a wasted generation. we're not particularly evil or weak or something, it's just that we happened to come about during the explosion of internet/internet culture.

in the 1500s we might have been great knights. in the 1600s we might have been explorers.
in the 1700s we might have been philosophers or missionaries.
in the 1800s we might have been soldiers or priests.
in the 1900s we might have been activists or writers.
in the 2000s, we spend 8 hours a day on the internet and achieve mediocrity in everything we do outside of the internet because of years of crystallized habit and an inability to commit time to anything (be it a relationship, an art, a job or school).

there's hope. we can change. we're not doomed. but it's gonna be a long, bumpy road, and we need to help each other.

audacious, i know.

That's the story (at least generally) of many if not most posters on this site. However its unseemly to blame circumstance and unhealthy to imagine that "if things were different, things would be different". What anyone who feels trapped on this board and in this lifestyle needs to realize is that agency and volition can be reclaimed relatively quickly through a radical program of self-appraisal and criticism, combined with a define and tangible course of action (get a degree, get a job). Stock self-help advice really, but you would be hard pressed to say it doesn't work if undertaken seriously, earnestly, and radically.
