The main character of Silver Linings Playbook is bipolar. I know it's not /Lit/ but it might be what you're looking for.

My ex-gf had that and it was unbearable. I sincerely loved her but she made me miserable. OP, if you're not too far gone already, I'd advise that you cut her loose.

You do realise that infidelity is literally a medically recognised symptom of bipolar, right?

>> No.6101003

I have pretty bad anxiety that pretty much makes me a social gimp and I try and deal with it by self-medicating, priorly with hardcore opiates, more recently though with naturalish supplements, with occasional lapses into the former.

OP, I don't know shit about the subject, but here's what I would do: just google for books and perhaps their reviews, then check libgen. There's bound to be something.

Or, might be even better, search journal databases like JSTOR for articles specifically on this (dealing with bipolar affective disorder of your relative). There's ton of medical journals out there, and they're not necessarily hard to understand.

The supplements actually help, but it can be expensive and time consuming to figure out which ones work for you. I've found that bacopa works well (brand is very important), ashwagandha, gotu kola. These all are verified anxiolytics

I started taking them when I realized that opiates and alcohol are not viable long-term solutions. They were beginning to turn on me.

I am on a medication for depression/anxiety although I suspect I have borderline personality disorder. I generally try to shy away from diagnoses, but I fit the description all too well. Moods that fluctuate throughout the day, rocky relationships due to my suspicions, my constant perceptions that people don't like me, etc. I've been making strides, though, thanks to weed and lsd. Anyway, idunno OP. Bipolar is a derious disorder. Make sure she sees a mental health professional. It usually takes medication and extensive therapy to help those who have severe cases.

>> No.6101119

Honestly, man, bipolar is incurable and she'll inevitably either kill herself or succumb to substance addiction. Unless you want to be a full time carer then you should get out while you still can.

Like you deal with any disease... you accept it, but don't let it rule your life. Don't beat yourself up about things it makes you do, but try to dissuade yourself (count to ten) when you're tempted to act according to mental illness.
(speaking from OCD perspective)
... but mostly shrinks help? Why does everyone ask for help on the internet about mental illness? Why not go see a professional? You could ask her doctor to meet with you and give you some tips for keeping her happy and mentally healthy.

'An Unquiet Mind' by Kay Redfield Jamison.

Stay with that as long as you can. You will either spend the rest of your life sacrificing your energy to her woes and descend to her level, or evolve and move on. That is the fact. Giving someone that diagnosis is like issuing a get out of jail free card. Try getting them to take responsibility for *anything* once the "I'm bi-polar..." excuse lays waste to anyone who doesn't endorse their bad behavior.

I'm sure you think some "love" will cure everything just like in the movies. If that's the case, give yourself some time to grow up before you commit to anything with this person.

My mum has that diagnosis. I have been through some lot with her, ambulance calls, overdoses, screaming fits at tiny little things, feeling nervous when she starts talking faster because I know the mania is starting.
What is most important, for me, is to recognise that you are not responsible for what they do.
Not everyone is as extreme as my mother. My girlfriend also has a diagnosis of bipolar affective disorder. She only gets a bit depressed when the pressure of her work gets high. She sometimes doesn't tell me, but sometimes will. Sometimes a trip to the docs for some tablets helps, sometimes the side effects make it not worth it.
Only a couple of times has she done things I won't accept in a relationship. She has never cheated.
To the people saying cut loose while you can, not everyone is the same. This is a problem of diagnosis and labelling. To demonstrate my point, one asthmatic may have to use a pump several times a day. One may only only use a pump after vigorous exercise. One may have had chest problems as a baby, and been falsely diagnosed with asthma.

Everyone is an individual. If the is good for both of you, continue. If it's not, break it off.

If there's films or books or even genomics she relates to, those are probably going to give you the best understanding.
P.s. you're not becoming a therapist. Don't try to be.
Ps.Ps. also if she's insecure, never ever cheat, keep extra girls in the background, text girls in secret, and do shit that can make people paranoid.
Can't think of any recommended books, but the charity "MIND" in the uk has excellent websites.

It's going to be one hell of a ride. All you can to is to take her in stride when she's at her worst and appreciate her when she's OK.

The best you could is probably to read Stoics and such to help coping with your chaotic and, at times, seemingly hopeless environment.
