/lit/ I picked up this from the library today (this is not my edition, my edition is the Carmichael translation) and I have no previous experience with Tolstoy. Am I in way over my head or is this a good way to begin Tolstoy's works?

Tolstoy is not a difficult author by any means. You'll be fine. Just snuggle up and get ready for a long, comfy immersion into the adventures and problems of the Russian aristocracy. Have fun!

I'm finishing it, it was my first time into Tolstoy too. I'm enjoying it a lot.

I started with Tolstoy with this book, it's a very long book, but very enjoyable, and easy to read.
Maybe you'll need to google some words if there are no footnotes.

I'm halfway through, first time Tolstoy, not hard at all and I find depicted sceneries really atmospheric and the book in whole is very beautiful

Haven't read any others but I'm currently reading the Rosemary Edmonds translation and it seems perfectly fine.

It is the work that got me into serious literature when I was 16, you should not have any problems with it.

I started with this one as well. I was very surprised how simple and easy to read it was. You're in for a treat OP, great book.
