That's dumb as fuck, beautiful butters. If anything the middle ages were a process of retroalimentation between society and religion.
The first presence of the concept of art as something that should exist by itself and is meritful in its beauty, even away from religious needs, came with christianity and the Enlightenment started and ended trying to force some anthropological justification to keep it around. Science, against absurd psuedo science like alchemy, was supported exclusively by the church in a time when utility was even more important than it is now. Even the chance of the masses being able to read came with the minuscule and the clergy, before that you would be lucky to read a dozen books in your life and you needed someone to teach you how to read each unless you were some prodigy (or were lying your ass off). Religion by itself did nothing, if there were violent means to keep a status quo or general shitiness among the people was because of the times and context.

I was a self-declared atheist from the age of 14. By age 18, I began to wonder what exactly I was distinguishing myself from. Could I truly call myself an atheist without even knowing what the fuck I was denying? Not really. I could, but my only cognitive conclusions could be drawn from ignorance and faith.

I'm 22 now, and I'm renewing my inquiry while trying to keep an impartial view. I've understood some aspects of Aristotle thus far, and I must admit, the logical integrity of the four causes - as primitive as they are - really underline a metaphysical supposition for the prime mover, God. You can go further with this frame of logic and assume this God to possess intelligence. With that being said, it begs the question as to whether or not this God can be a personal one, or if he has died, or if he even cares of his creation.

My position of trying to remain impartial tells me that I'm agnostic. But within the confines of my personal admission I'm starting to see lean toward theism. At any rate, I'll press on and immerse myself in the renaissance period where modernism came to be. I can hopefully find alternative or contrary beliefs to further kindle my inquiry.

Speaking as an atheist, Coleridge said it best:

If dead, we cease to be; if total gloom
Swallow up life's brief flash for aye, we fare
As summer-gusts, of sudden birth and doom,
Whose sound and motion not alone declare,
But are their whole of being! If the breath
Be Life itself, and not its task and tent,
If even a soul like Milton's can know death;
O Man! thou vessel purposeless, unmeant,
Yet drone-hive strange of phantom purposes!
Surplus of Nature's dread activity,
Which, as she gazed on some nigh-finished vase,
Retreating slow, with meditative pause,
She formed with restless hands unconsciously.
Blank accident! nothing's anomaly!
If rootless thus, thus substanceless thy state,
Go, weigh thy dreams, and be thy hopes, thy fears,
The counter-weights! -- Thy laughter and thy tears
Mean but themselves, each fittest to create
And to repay the other! Why rejoices
Thy heart with hollow joy for hollow good?
Why cowl thy face beneath the mourner's hood?
Why waste thy sighs, and thy lamenting voices,
Image of Image, Ghost of Ghostly Elf,
That such a thing as thou feel'st warm or cold?
Yet what and whence thy gain, if thou withhold
These costless shadows of thy shadowy self?
Be sad! be glad! be neither! seek, or shun!
Thou hast no reason why! Thou canst have none;
Thy being's being is contradiction.

Existence is nihilistic. This is so horrifying to contemplate that many (perhaps all) of us turn to irrational fantasies to contemplate.

THERE IS TRUTH HIGHER THAN CHRISTIANITY. GOD EXISTS, BUT ITS TRUE CHARACTERISTICS HAVE BEEN MISREPRESENTED BY NEARLY EVERY RELIGION. MANY PEOPLE HAVE SEEN THE REALITY OF GOD, AND IT IS FAR GREATER THAN ONE COULD UNDERSTAND WHILE ON EARTH.

WHY IS HUMANITY'S UNDERSTANDING OF GOD LIKE THIS? BECAUSE 'FAITH' AND 'NATURALISM' ARE CURRENTLY SEPARATE IN MOST HUMANS. FAITH BEING THE ACCEPTANCE OF AN ALL-POWERFUL BEING, AND NATURALISM BEING THE BELIEF THAT WHAT EXISTS IS ARBITRARY ‒ NATURALLY OCCURRING.

FAITH, OR RELIGION, THEISM, ETC. IS THE 'OLD' THOUGHT OF HUMANITY, ITS BEGINNING CANNOT BE FOUND, AND IS COMMONLY UNDERSTOOD AS THE NATURAL STATE OF HUMAN BELIEF. THIS FAITH EXISTED BEFORE MODERN SCIENCE, MAKING IT VERY EASY TO DISREGARD TODAY.

NATURALISM, OR SCIENTISM, MATERIALISM, ATHEISM ETC. IS THE 'NEW' THOUGHT OF HUMANITY, AND ITS COMMONNESS IS ONLY PRESENT IN THE LAST FEW GENERATIONS. IN MANY COUNTRIES TODAY, THE MAJORITY OF TEENAGERS ACCEPT SCIENCE AS BEING AN AUTHORITY OF KNOWLEDGE. VISIT AUSTRALIA, AND ASK TEENAGERS ABOUT THEIR BELIEFS ‒ YOU WILL FIND THAT THEY "DON'T KNOW" OR ARE "NOT SURE". ON THE OUTSIDE THESE TEENAGERS APPEAR VERY INTELLIGENT, AND THEY ARE, BUT ON THE INSIDE, THEY ARE SCARED BECAUSE THEIR THOUGHT HAS BEEN LIMITED BY SCEPTICISM AND DOUBT. EVERYONE AROUND THEM ENFORCES THE IDEA THAT THEY CANNOT KNOW THE ANSWERS TO CERTAIN QUESTIONS CONCERNING EXISTENCE ‒ A TERRIBLE INJUSTICE IT IS, TO DOUBT THE CAPABILITIES OF A YOUNG PERSON.

BUT, THERE IS HOPE. FAITH AND NATURALISM WILL BE ASSIMILATED, FOR THE BELIEF IN GOD DOES NOT REQUIRE THE REJECTION OF SCIENCE. NATURALISM SEEMS LIKE DISEASE TO THE THEIST, BUT IT IS NECESSARY, AS IT WILL CREATE A NEW THOUGHT. THIS THOUGHT HAS NO NAME. THIS THOUGHT IS THE BELIEF THAT ALL IS GOD, AND ALWAYS HAS BEEN GOD. THE ONLY PURPOSE WE HAVE ON EARTH IS TO SERVE GOD, FOR WE ARE GOD. MAN EXISTS TO GENERATE WHAT GOD DESIRES ‒ LOVE. DISREGARD COMMANDMENTS, RITUALS, AND RELIGIOUS CELEBRATIONS, THE ONLY RULE IS TO LOVE. GOD IS LOVE, AND TO LOVE IS TO GIVE GOD POWER.

SO EMBRACE THE NEW ERA, IN WHICH WE WILL DISMANTLE A SOCIETY THAT IS POWERED BY MAN'S FLAWS. EMBRACE THE NEW STATE, WHERE WE WILL SHARE, AND NOTHING WILL BE OWNED. OUR GOAL WILL NOT BE PLEASURE, BUT LOVE.

Christians on /lit/ are all propagandists. They exist solely to create an image of the world for themselves that erodes cognitive dissonance. By being vocal and atheist, you interrupt their delusional projections onto the world. So, they must be inflammatory and try to piss atheists off, just so they can spam their fedora memes and restore their false images of the world

It's like white racists who believe white men are inherently superior to other racists. When they see an interracial couple, they rabidly fight the delusion by adding in more delusions about Jews in the media. It's layers of delusions on delusions

Christians don't get why I call them delusional. They're not delusional because they believe abstract objects exist. They're delusional because they can only accept my existence by blocking out my reality and placing an image of a fedora meme there.
