well, if the debate is within a very general territory, then OP could argue that they're both being retarded for discussing such matters since neither stance is falsifiable in the end. if the scientismist/positisvist claim and its counterpart reside in more specific domains like using statistics for apparently non-deterministic systems, or in the more abstract realm of epistemology, then yeah, there are many interesting things to be said on both parts and if both parts would be interested in gaining something from the debate, rather than obsessing over the winner/loser paradigm, maybe OP be able to have a meaningful conversation instead of being a worthless fucking pleb.
