Descartes was a paranoid, religiously oppressed mad man whose arguments should never be taken at face-value. Throughout all of his writings he was fearful of being persecuted by the Spanish Inquisition and the Church. Not to say he wasn't a good philosopher, but we'll never know what he really thought because the good stuff remained in his mind.

Kierkegaard is the best philosopher the world has ever known.
