Serious question OP

I never read the series as a kid. Do you think I should read it now, as a college aged American male? Will it seem trite and childish?

I'm worried I will hate it since I tried to go back and re-read some of my favorite YA/Children's literature and it was garbage.

You honestly won't know unless you try.

Even if you value your nostalgia, it doesn't hurt to indulge it here and there.

I recently picked up The Westing Game at a goodwill for a buck, read that at least 15 times as a kid. Still a fun read now.

I read a lot of YA shit growing up and this and the Abhorsen series are the only ones that really stood out.
Whether I simply read this at the right point in life or it is a legit good read I couldn't say. You could probably get Northern Lights for less than a dollar so what do you have to lose?

I love that as well, although if I reread it now it would probably destroy a lot of fond memories

I didn't read his dark materials until I was 22 and loved it. Honestly it's some pretty heavy shit for a 12 year old.

It teaches a great lesson to young people, most adults are as retarded as you are and love Now will probably be unobtainable as you age with that person you grew up with

The Golden Compass is based Kid's Lit. Armored bear madness abounds.

The series goes to total shit with the second and third book.

Even as a 13-year-old it was easy to tell Pullman was an edgy try hard fedora fag. Gay Angels? Fucking retarded.

Golden Compass is God-tier child's lit though.
