>I heard he's the voice of the generation, is this true?
No he's like in his 30's. Plus, I don't think our/his generation is fucked enough for him to be the voice of it.

Tao, for your next novel you should record an audio CD with your emotionless voice. I would enjoy this a great deal.

I read that sex scene by him, you know the one with the flying hamster n shit, but didn't like it too much. Wasn't bad, but nothing I'd buy from a book store.

He should spend less time promoting himself and more time actually being a writer.

His bibliography is so tiny and so mediocre, yet he wont stop pretending like he's be biggest thing since sliced bread.

How is the necessary promotion of your work pretending to be great? And if anything I'd say he's fairly humbled when it comes to himself.

>> No.3150819

I enjoy the sheer obsession with surface-y details. It makes for a nice change of pace.

I can't yet say whether he is a good writer or not, but he's definitely an enjoyable one.

>> No.3150861

I think people are far too distracted by the content of his writing and fail to see how finely he's tuned his voice/style. By contrast, Chabon's voice, though at times describing things beautifully, has limits by its nature as historical-omniscient. Eggars also seems generic by comparison, even though his latest book has some particularly sharp, breathtaking moments. Tao is not only on a different register from these, but is pitch-perfect. Whether or not you think suburban ennui and gmail chat is content worth reading about is up for debate however. Personally I think it suits the style, and in this regard I consider the novels to be totally complete, virtually self-contained fiction.

There's a difference between "necessary promotion" and spreading buzz through ghost-writing reviews of your own book. The only reason he's gotten to where he is now is by pretending to be readers who were amazed by his subpar novels.
