Was he right? In Ghosts of my Life he talks about how music culture is slowing down and now that we are in the xth wave of things like dubstep, jungle, phonk without new unique subcultures breaking off its hard to say he is wrong.

Why aren't zoomers and gen A forming their own things?

There’s not much more to form is there? All of the low hanging fruit is gone. We need aliens to send new stuff so we can go from there

excuse the ponies (open links at own risk) but there's plenty of "new" things around. you just gotta find the niché yourself. What's new music? New music hasn't been done since the invention of the drum and flute.

>their own things
They’re not. They’re typing things out to AI. AI only takes what came before from human heads and scrambles it, but these younger generations are giving up on doing themselves. Creativity is getting thinner and going unrewarded.

When I read this I thought he claimed that music was slowing down in things like dubstep, jungle, phonk

Because you can't get more primitive than literal primitivism. There's only so many variations to a rhythmic beat that can be made. Drums, dubstep, skulltops, it doesn't matter, it's all the same. Music has regressed and it can't regress any further.

>Was he right?
He had nothing original or noteworthy to say. Just a boring critic who was only capable of writing about other writers and artists

>> No.23108264

For some reason he was obsessed with Jungle music which I guess at the time was something original, but I do find his worldview compelling, he was right to call out the Vampire Castle and make eternally online Twitterers seethe, we have lost a sense of optimism for the future, for something new and bold and different. Hollywood is stuck in the remake, reboot and sequel doomloop, there is no real counterculture that can invent something like rock and roll, rave or punk, just an endless sea of apathetic deracinated social media addicts. I may have to reread Ghosts and Capitalist Realism, I'm not even a lefty but I sympathise with some of his socialist tendencies.

Any faggot who ever says anything to the effect that things are stagnating in music, culture, art, capitalism, politics, etc etc etc, is always and eternally wrong every time forever and always. They're just too braindead to know where the change is or don't even bother looking.
