Hobbit is a quest stpry. LOTR is a quest story. It would be like George RR Martin complaining about Homer's Odyssey because he didn't continue the story and let us know what kind of ruler Odysseus would be

Speaking of Homer, I'd imagine Tolkien lived his life knowing that he's no Homer and never will be, just like George RR Martin lived his life knowing he's know Tolkien and never will be, but I doubt Tolkien was a massive baby about it like George RR Martin is

There were actually ancient sequels to the Odyssey, e.g. the Telegony where Odysseus goes off and marries some queen in Epirus before returning home where he gets killed by a son he had with Circe.

Yeah, because when I'm reading epic fantasy, I want to learn about taxes just because. If it serves the story, sure economic stuff is interesting but knowing a thing just to know it is pendantic.
