I believe the Lannisters are cooler than the Targyaren and I'm sick of pretending they're not! They didn't need magic or dragons to be feared, just their wits and loads of money!
Also Tywin is the coolest character in the series.

I think after deafeating Stannis, it would need a mix of Tyrion and Jaimie as corulers to cement Lannister superiority.
I think no matter what, Varys would have found a way to kill Tywin even if Tyrion decided against it. So the biggest threat was the eunuch, then the Martells.
An ideal combination would be Tywin as director with Jaimie as lord and Tyrion as the Hand of the King. Tommen as King who would follow orders and Varys' head on a spike.

lannisters have so much plot armour
>all bannermen are 100% unquestionably loyal even during the toughest times whereas the norf and riverlands both have powerful contingents just waiting for a golden opportunity to betray their lords
>littlefinger helps them out for no reason in ACoK despite the fact that tyrion should be having him executed (big plothole)
>shadowbaby lol
>wildfire ex machina
>norf declares independence for no good reason making them teaming up with either baratheon impossible
>they're rich because... gold mines... (bravo martin)
>cersei has a few days to kill the king and make it look like an accident or she's doomed, her plan to get him drunk and just kinda hope he dies somehow... actually works like wtf come on
>tywin getting btfo'd when trying to defend his own lands is actually a good thing because he turns around and beats stannis, his bannermen's lands getting pillaged has zero tangible consequences
>two women are capable of setting jaime free from a castle dungeon without being stopped, and for some reason believe he'll keep a promise he has no motivation to fulfill

I don't really intend to finish the series, but reading some of it I was struck by how vibrantly colorful and over-the-top everything is. That IS one thing the fat fuck gets right from a historical perspective. The Middle Ages weren't drab and gloomy, they were bursting with color and charisma and over-the-top displays of beauty, wealth, taste, and style. There's a reason both velvet and satin were so prominent in this period. ASOIAF manages to get that right in a way I felt the show really didn't. The show was lacking in color a lot of the time.

Dark Ages are only a small part of the actual Middle Ages. It's also massive propaganda by ((Enlightenment)) thinkers and writers. The High Middle Ages were as sophisticated a civilization as anywhere in the world at the time.

>> No.22916486

>>22916451
They got lucky that the Frey's were degenerates. It doesn't matter though, the North remembers and the Boltons are on borrowed time. They tricked there way into defeating one Stark, but not even the best one. After Stannis and John mount Ramsay's head on a pike they are marching down with the Cranag Men and the knights of the Vale and murdering every last Frey.

The Night's Watch is technically only until death and a man who dies and comes back is free to go.

Lannisters are fucked. They have the Golden Company and a (potentially real) Taggaryan coming in from the Storm lands, an insane woman in charge and a child heir, disunity with their main ally, the Dornish ready to revolt, Iron Men raiding their main allies lands (pulling armies away from King's Landing right as the Golden Company shows up), and they STILL have an insurgency in the Riverlands and a Tully on the loose. And with Lady Stoneheart back, I think the insurgency is going to get a lot worse.

And there is some bitch with dragons who may or may not come back.

But what am I saying? None of that matters because Winds isn't coming out in 24, or 25, or probably 26, and like 85% of the interesting shit I mentioned was cut out of the show or given retarded endings to cut down on plot lines.

I always thought the entire point of the Others is that they're so dangerous precisely BECAUSE they're beyond the squabbles of the kings and lords. They're a worldwide threat, an existential threat, and the lords of Westeros had better figure out how to pull their heads out of their asses in time to deal with them or it's going to be doom for everyone.

It's not surprising some people take them as Martin's metaphor for climate change. It does kind of fit.

Yes but that's precisely why they don't fit with the rest of the narrative. Instead he should have made the plot more personal and limited, say with the victory or fall of a House. Maybe Littlefinger could be the mc and it could be about the rise of House Baelish to the Kingdom. All the other squabbles being just the backdrop, and the fight continues.
