Tried reading a Brandon Sanderson book (the first Mistborn one) because a good friend of mine said it's good. I already knew it's modern genreslop of the purest variety, but had to stop reading because almost immediately the author introduces magical powers straight from video games. There's literally a character that spends Luck points to influence her surroundings. It makes me think what the actual audience is for these books.
