Happened to Mailer, Updike & Roth. They are still in print more or less. Reputation is always lowest in the decade after someone dies, when they are an easy target for a young buck wanting to make a name for themselves as an investigatory journalist, someone to set yourself up as opposition to. Even Henry James was out for a couple of decades and only came back in after the war
