I preferred reading C&P, but I think the themes and content is TBK are objectively better.

BK
>Why?
More complete than CP, more themes and more expressive. CP deals mostly with 19th century petty society in St. Petersburg whereas BK talks about more general themes in a thorough manner. CP was rushed, especially the most important part as per leitmotif, whereas BK was Dosto's magnum opus.

So far of Dosto I've read TBK, C&P, and the Idiot. Of the three, I liked C&P the least. TBK has better and more interesting themes, Idiot has a better plot and interactions between characters. It may also have been because I read C&P last, and kind of already understood what Dosto had to say, so it lost some of the oomph and newness I felt from the previous two books.

You're not wrong to have that impression, Anon. CP isn't as good as the other books, unless you're in the same predicament as Rodion, that is to say, a student in Eastern Europe who is surrounded by abject poverty, desperate people and girls who are prostituted and debased by other men.

In other words, literally me.

Yeah
CP is most like a traditional western novel and less expansive Russian doorstopper
