Is there still great men?
Seems like the intellectual elite has declined steeply since the 50s
You can see BBC tv shows where a bunch of middle aged men talked about philosophy for 6 hours in the 60s
Now all the intellectuals are either shallow public intelectuals/grifters, people on technical fields and math with little perception of the bigger picture, etc
Read a common book from the 19 century and the sentence construction is done with such refinement, even books for laymen by common people, that the average ADHD zoomer would probably be repulsed by it
Why? What happened? Was it the decline of classical education and the rise of post modern thought? Was it university attendance skyrocketing in the 60s? Was it the sexual revolution?
Are great men even possible anymore? Do we have the public to appreciate them? Can they bloom in the current cultural soil?
