The only really important book is
>How to Make it Stick

In this book you know how to actually remember stuff you have read or seen. It's also interesting to finally understand why school is garbage and actually counter learning.

Every other book is rather garbage or just good enough just reading a summary.

For example
>Atomic Habit
Basically just says that you have to create your life to be confronted with important things all the time and try to make unimportant things hard to aquire. There is also the "do a little bit every day" assumption in it to make big gains in the long run, but this is rather flawed to assume you can get exponential growth.
>Deep Work
Basically just says that you have to create an uninterrupted time every day to learn to reach higher levels. The time is between 30 minutes and three hours of dedicated improvement time every time without interruption.

There are other books, but most self help books are more about giving you ideas and making sure you heard something than actually helping you improve.

For example a garbage book is
>Rich dad, poor dad
At first it sounds great that you can make money without any kind of degree. But when you look at the "money making" scheme, it's literally just real estate flipping and other "passive income" methods that depend on people working for less than they make you. The biggest problem is that this book is just outdated and was create in a time when real estate was cheap af and flipping without internet insanely easy.

Stay away from books like
>10 rules for life
Those books are just garbage money maker and most tips are even worse than doing nothing. For example the good tips are "treat yourself as good as your friends", "only compare yourself to how you were yesterday", and "only have friend that want to best for you and help you being successful. But shit like "wash your dick" or "don't allow your child to behave in a way which you don't like" are either complete cult bullshit or straight up cringe garbage. Especially if you see how his daughter is a complete failure in regard to parenting, you realize that his "parenting" tips should be avoided more than nuclear waste if you want your child to actually be valuable.

the Courage to be Disliked
about Adlerian thought. a counterpoint to the trend of blaming trauma for your problems. feelings of inferiority are good, and cues for you to make changes. You have a set of life tasks that everyone needs to work toward: building relationships, and contributing to society

You're here forever. You are not going ro improve your quality of life. Your gym membership will go to waste. Your books will rot away, unread. Your friends will slip away. It never began for you.

>> No.21722603

I’d stay away from books unless you see books as motivation. What I mean is that you already know what you want to do and what you should be doing. The problem is you aren’t. But you have realized this so you are already on the right path. Atlas Shrugged is great because it will inspire you to stop being weak.
I’d watch some videos instead of books. Like Dan Peña youtube. You need to realize that you have been programmed to be a loser and if you just START taking action right now you can start to reverse this. You have no idea how much your life can change in a few months. So what are you scared of, what do you want, and start moving toward it right now (now or never) and ignore the voices saying it’s too hard.

Here's the advice I always post on these gay ass bot threads.
DO NOBUY SELF-HELP BOOKS.

Instead, buy/rent books about a SPECIFIC topic you want to learn about. A minimum of 10 subject-specific books.

Let's say you want to learn more about Marketing:
>Buy 10 books on marketing
>Take NOTES while you read
>Cross-reference ideas, and make notes of when the different authors agree or disagree.
>Make a list of all the BOOKS that the books you're reading reference, and then read those too.

If you read this many books about any single topic, you'll likely become more knowledgeable about that topic than 90% of people.

I wanted to become a writer, and over the years I've probably read 50+ books on writing. Now I make $200k/year as a writer.

The best self-improvement books aren't books that give you a step-by-step guide on how to live your life, but simply give you information and tools that you can apply to your life.

Digital minimalism is worth it. I did the challenge in extra hard mode (nothing but physical print media, pen and notebook for a month, no other media, not even recorded music, full 19th century mode, during covid lockdowns with very little distractions) and it was a good reboot, if only to show me that I can just abandon the digital world and be happy when I want to.

It was scary to commit to at first but once you have found out that you can, you're way more likely to incorporate tech free moments and periods into your life afterwards.

Well Newports idea is that after your original detox you have a better view of which part of your digital life was actually serving you because you have created some distance and then you carefully add those parts that provide you value back in. I admit that I did more of a dive back in than that, but for me the result was still a different relationship with digital media than before.

For example, I realised that the worsts parts of my digital world were being too caught up in the hysterical current events and hot takes cycle (in my offline time I noticed that newspapers had a similar effect on me) and keeping in touch with people who add little positive value to my life just out of momentum and habit. But there were also plenty of things about the internet that add value and joy to my life, so I was glad to get those back. I can do without them, but when I have the option I would prefer to live with them.
