Achamian and Esmenet were such unbelievably repulsive characters that I almost didn’t want to move on to The Aspect Emperor. I enjoyed the entire series and I’ll likely read it again but those two are unreal, especially Esmenet. Thankfully they get better in the second series and Achamian becomes an actually likable character.

These are pretty shit descriptions of the book. Fixating one thing that triggers you every 80 pages of a book because "X = bad an unacceptable!!!" is literally peak SJW. You're no different from the people trashing it because the female MCs aren't all gender transcending heros.

I liked the books. None of the characters are particularly likeable, that is sort of the point.

I liked the kaleidoscopic battle scenes but other parts of the prose were weak. Still, 10/10 unique world. Basically a mashup of Dune, LOTR, and Berserk with some Hegel thrown in; right up my alley. I get why some people don't like it though.

I absolutely loved Cnaiur up until he raped a certain man. Conphas was also one of my favorite characters until the end. Kellhus is quite difficult because I have a hard time even seeing him as an actual character. He is really more like an AI and not human at all.

Bakker has mainly drawn from both Dune and LotR. He himself said that these two were his main inspiration. I don’t know how Berserk is supposed to fit though. Aside from that I think I remember that Bakker said he would always have a copy of the Bible and Blood Meridian laying on his table while writing. Though I am not fully sure if I remember that correctly
