What else are you gonna do? You’re on a train. YOU’RE the weird one for thinking it’s for attention seeking. Regular people read on the train cause it’s a good time to read. YOURE the weirdo for overthinking what other people will think of you.

This. This is /lit/'s sole contribution to society. A shitty l*ddit meme that died within a couple of weeks.
Whereas, /sci/ solves unsolved mathematical problems for fun; /pol/ directly influences the discourse within contemporary politics and pushes its Overton window; /tv/ invents real memes (picking up /b/'s baton after it decided to focus on pornography) that quite possibly may last forever; professional musicians post on /mu/; and other boards focus on what they're actually devoted to; /lit/ can't even be bothered to fucking read.
Truly, this is the shittiest board of all time.

you'll never get any good reading done on the train. not unless you hang your forearms off your legs with the book held up in the middle, and really lean into it. But then you're bent almost double over, and you look ridiculous—but that's the only way. Otherwise you're what: looking down, your head at a little incline, with the book perched in your lap? Impossible. The letters will be like little ants from that distance, you'll waste all your focus in making out their shape, rather than relishing their meaning.

What could you possibly have meant by this? Have you ever been on the inside of a train? You just sit down in a chair and hold a book up to read it. It's the exact same as reading on your couch at home. What the actual fuck are you on about?

What are you on about? What the fuck am I reading? Is everyone in this thread just out of their minds? Am I being gaslit? There's nothing wrong with reading on train, it's not impossible to read on a train, it doesn't look pretentious to read on a train, and you don't HOLD YOUR EYES ON THE SAME POINT ON A SCREEN WHEN YOU READ AN E-READER. HOW THE ACTUAL FUCK DO YOU THINK E-READERS WORK? YOU HAVE TO MOVE YOUR FUCKING EYES TO READ ON AN E-READER BECAUSE IT'S SET UP THE SAME WAY THE PAGE OF A BOOK IS SET UP. IT'S SET UP THE SAME WAY THE PAGE OF A BOOK IS SET UP. YOU HAVE TO MOVE YOUR EYES ALONG THE LINES OF THE PAGE TO READ, EVEN ON AN E-READER. I AM LITERALLY GOING INSANE BY READING THE STUPID SHIT IN THIS THREAD

I find i get my best reading done on public transport actually. I find the movement of the vehicle and the view out the window from my peripheral vision to be just the right amount of extra stimulation needed to really focus on what I'm reading. I often catch the train or bus specificallly to read, it gets me out of the house and its a very pleasant experience. Nice bait thread though OP.

>> No.21244675

Nonsense. Hold up the book? The minute strain on the muscles of the forearm is too much of a distraction, you might as well be pinching yourself with a clothespin; it doesn't really hurt at all, but it's there, and it's enough to make the mind useless. At home on the couch you use the armrest, you lean into it, it's effortless. You're obviously not a reader. None of the greats ever read in the way you described; they either poured into the book over a desk, or lounged into it on a ottoman. For reading to be possible, Man must first get away from his usual struggle with gravity: he must sink into something, and thereby forget his body, become pure mind.

You can't be this new. That anon is referencing this:
>On September 26, 2011, an anonymous user on /sci/ posted a question regarding the shortest possible way to watch all possible orders of episodes of the anime The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya in nonchronological order. Shortly after, an anonymous user responded with a mathematical proof that argued viewers would have to watch at least 93,884,313,611 episodes to see all possible orderings. 7 years later, professional mathematicians recognized the mathematical proof as a partial solution to a superpermutations problem that was unsolved for 25 years. Australian mathematician Greg Egan later published a proof inspired by the proof from the anonymous 4chan user, both of which are recognized as significant advances to the problem.[148]

None of /his/ actually read either of theology or historiography.
None of /his/ actually read works comprised on a theological or historiographical basis.
/his/ actively reads books constructed on non-theological and non-historiographical bases: ie: Irving grade shit.
/his/ actively promotes narratives counter to the very purpose of Knowing God through his revelations in Text or Knowing the past through reading the documentary record of the past.
/his/ actively avoids reading text in context or text in meta- / hyper-text.
/his/ needs to be taken out the back, prayed over, and then shot by Red Guards.

I'm not joking. And the only reasonable disagreement someone could have with me is whether the guards need to be Red or Black.
