Literally what is the point of anything, retard. We do things that makes us appreciate existence. Reading is one way to experience things we never will in real life, or to accentuate what we do know and have experienced. And I don't mean escapism, but rather the ability to project one's mind into situations that one has never been in and grow in some form of understanding from that.
In fact, to derail this retarded thread into a more salient topic, and referring to the point above, I don't believe that the whole idea of "lived experience" exists. I mean to say, this shit of "you've never lived X so you can't even start to understand what it is like". I call bullshit. Every situation has minor analogues that can be extended or patched together to approximate a more specific or intense experience. "You don't know what it feels like to be a black woman" etc basically just means "you don't have the requisite knowledge to convince me that you are the same as me." I am betting that an adequately intelligent white man could absolutely imagine, somewhat accurately, what the limited experience of being a black woman is.
