Guenon doesn't talk in depth about Hermeticism, I don't think he'd help to understand the texts.

interesting point, any info on why Evola might have chosen to write about Hermeticism/Magic while Guenon didnt? I have only read East and West by Guenon and nothing from Evola so I really dont know much about what they wrote.

Two disgruntled Christians set out for heresy. One goes to Eastern religion. The other turns to hermeticism and the occult. It’s really that simple.

Evola liked it because it is a Western Tradition preserved foremost in aristocratic/royal circles and completely devoid of Eastern (semitic/kabbalistic) influence. The sign of the completion of the Work is the active and royal Red or Purple and the Crown, symbols of the sacred Empire, as opposed to the contemplative White of the Priests. I'm not sure if Guenon knew as much about it as Evola did in terms of actually understanding the manuscripts, Evola was really into it and his book on it is incredible and possibly his best imo.

That’s what it is. They were disgruntled Christians. Nothing more.

Pardon my ignorance but wasnt hermeticism basically mixed from the start with kabbalah, specifically during the Renaissance? Then freemasons and occultists adopted it but I alwas thought that hermeticism, kabbalah and neoplatonism emerged during the renaissance thanks to the study and translation of ancient texts

>> No.20599104

Hermeticism comes from Eastern philosophy. What are you talking about?

>> No.20599132

Christianity is Semitic at its core there sweetie.

>Pardon my ignorance but wasnt hermeticism basically mixed from the start with kabbalah, specifically during the Renaissance?
No. Hermeticism proper refers to the Tradition of Hermes-Thoth, originally from Egypt and passed on to the Greeks during the Alexandrian period. It was mixed with Kabbalah (a separate Tradition, with some similarities; it is possible that Moses obtained some knowledge from the Egyptian priestly/royal elites by fraud or otherwise) only later on, as you mentioned, and this is a deviation. The technique of the Hermetic Tradition is alchemy.

>>20599104
How? Hermes is Greek. Unless you are suggesting it "comes" from ancient China, which I think is unlikely but not totally ludicrous given the similarities it has with some elements of Taoism. There is also a theory that it originally came from India, but I don't see how unless it was an extremely long time ago and have seen no convincing arguments yet, but to be honest I haven't gone far enough down that rabbit hole so maybe you know something I don't.

>>20599132
Hermeticism predates Christianity by thousands of years. Christian Hermeticists would have used the religion as a cover though (they knew how to "ride the tiger"), but that has no bearing on the initiatic teachings. If you read authentic (Rosicrucian and pre-Rosicrucian) Hermetic texts there is nothing Christian about them except for superficialities, especially in the pre-medieval writings that came from the Arabs and Greeks before them.
>inb4 ROSE-CROSS
Please don't go there, this is a symbol all sorts of pagans had.

>> No.20599289

>>20599000
Also, you mentioned magic. Evola was interested in "magical-heroic" initiation which he claimed was for Western Royals, and I think he is correct. Hermeticism ties into this quite well. There are some circles/lineages and they are extremely well hidden. I don't pretend to know who they are but they existed and still exist, although to what extent I'm not sure.
