I ordered his complete works recently, and its organised chronologically which I really appreciate. One of the first (earliest) stories made me smile because in it he keeps dreaming of this strange marble city, and one night he changes from a detached observer to a citizen of this city, which is being besieged by "squat, yellow creatures" which are about to attack it. He is tasked with standing guard and watching the northern pass to alert his comrades when the creatures appear, but falls asleep and wakes up in the present day, and feels guilty that he fell asleep at his post and fears the beings are attacking. Then he learns from a friend that the region in which the city is apparently based does not exist, but is now inhabited solely by "squat, yellow eskimos". Quite funny, and a decent story otherwise.
