All depends on how you define philosopher and what you mean by “being” very elementary stuff for sure. The definition of what it is to be a philosopher however is very vague. Is a metaphysician the same thing as a political philosopher? I would say he was a philosopher because he engaged in writing, and other actions, to share his own thoughts about a relevant topic. Again basic stuff.
