No yeah, I know he had reasons, but the point is that they're myopic, obtuse reasons. Giving the northern castles to southern lords would've turned the North against him. From neutral, it would have become actively hostile.

If he wanted to reward his lords, he should've given them castles and lands south of The Neck. Trying to infiltrate southern lords in the North was obviously not a viable strategy, nor a stable situation. The northerners would've been offended and restless, and would've revolted at the first chance, that's inevitable. Stannis should've understood this, but he's the type of obtuse individual who thinks "I'm da king so everyone must obey" and ends up stabbed for no good reason.

In the end, all Baratheons are fucking imbeciles. And Renly was also a faget.
