if we presuppose that capitalism wastes natural resources and material for fiat monetary profit, and the earth has a finite amount of material, is capitalism's technology (i know, i need a better word for this term) capable of keeping up with supply to meet market demand? in other words, will there be enough technological inventions that allow more efficient use of materials before the mob turns violent due to insane demand of limited supply? this comes in memes like "eat the bugs" or "be vegan" or "starve yourself" but you and i would agree this is a shit alternative, instead people should simply be a more responsible consumers and source their food (animal products especially) rather than eat junk food shit that is both bad for the consumer and the environment as it wastes too many resources. now today it's impossible to be an ethical consumer unless you're rich--want to get ethically sourced seafood that doesn't harm the ocean? that'll be $100/lb for crab meat--OR you have to produce it yourself and go fishing, hunting and be hunter gatherer. even being a farmer today is so fucked that government only allows you to sell crops that come from food conglomerates like monsanto that will only sell farmers infertile seed: farmers can't replant their harvest after every season and every year they have to go back to the seed company to buy new GMO seeds every year; this is why heirloom seeds and shit are so expensive and increasingly rare. but instead of fixing this, food companies make it "okay" to be fat and obese and say anyone who condemns the unhealthy behavior as "fatphobic," thus justifying (to the mob, at least) their unethical and illogical utilization of materials.
