Is Roger Scruton right that Islam destroys the culture of western devotion to women through romantic chivalry and the ideal of kneeling to women and adoring the nude female form and regarding women as inspirational muses? I know John Milbank said something similar when he noted that patriarchy is much more stressed in Islam than Christianity

Chivalry was a pseudo code of etiquette meant to be followed by knights in a royal court. Most of the rules had nothing to do with gender relations, and the ones that did were a formality at best. At the height of the Middle Ages less than 0.1% of Europe’s population followed any form of chivalry, since almost everyone was a peasant. And those peasants beat their wives and coomed in prostitutes and literally gave no shits about women’s rights. In fact even until the 1950s it was acceptable for men to give their wife a smack if she was being mouthy. Simp culture, or at least the mainstreaming of simp culture, is a very new phenomenon, although one could argue that it’s the resurrection of ancient matriarchal fertility cults.
