How should a brainlet like myself read Shakespeare? No Fear Shakespeare? Annotated Shakespeare by Rowse? Arden?

I have found the annotations in the Barnes & Noble editions to be more than adequate. If they're not enough for you, you were never gonna make it anyway

Read it once through alongside Wikipedia to understand the plot and the characters. Read the second time with plot and characters in mind, but pay attention to the language. Subsequent rereads reveal more and more. The biggest issue I have when starting a new Shakespeare is just getting a foothold
