I never understood what's wrong with the Wardine section. I live among thousands of Wardines and they do talk like this. Sometimes they invent new words by blurring whole phrases together if they have to say the phrase every day. Like, instead of learning how to take orders by saying "can I take your order" they understand it as the distinct word "caaahtayyaohda" which in their mind is "the word I say at work when I take object A and give object B."

My post wasn't ironic at all. DFW was obsessed with limitation, cruelty, sex, and death. And he hated American culture. But he writes in a way to avoid expressly stating his sentiments (usually). Or it comes across in his style and manner indirectly
