What are some good books with lots of characters (at least a dozen who matter), preferably in a modern setting? I've spent three weeks enjoying Les Miserables and I'd like to move on to something else with a similarly sized cast.
English, French and Romanian language only please.

Good afternoon sir! Might I suggest joining the Pickwick Readers Club where we will be reading Charles Dickens's The Pickwick Papers, in which the four main characters encounter dozens and dozens of delightful characters on their journeys around the English countryside.
