>>19761679
It's a reincarnation trap. The book mentions it
>Do not be enticed by that soft smoky light of hell! Hey! That is the path of destruction from the confusion you have accumulated by your strong hatred! If you cling to it, you will fall into the hells; you will be stuck in the mire of unbearable ordeals of suffering, without any escape.
And talks about the "true light" which is actually within (the tibetans call it "luminous mind")

I think a lot of parallels can be drawn nonetheless especially since Theravada can be interpreted as a dualism. The whole soteriology being based around escape from conditioned material existence, the attainment of insight through practice, similar themes throughout (nirvana as an "unbending", Siddhartha actually confronting Brahma/the Demiurge who is presented as ignorant of his true condition, the wheel of Samsara and eternal suffering...)
Both Gnosticism and Theravada Buddhism (I'm specifying Theravada since the bodhisattva path is very different) are profoundly anti-world, they're a reaction to conditioned existence and share the same sentiment towards it.
I disagree with the OP that Vajrayana can be considered gnostic, though.

No? I don´t have any particular belief. More of a perennialist.
>You realise literally every theist believes that
You realise literally every edgy atheists concept of theists believes that? And no, I do not believe it is that simple. Many religious people struggle with their faith and many people change religion. There is a jewish saying that goes somewhere along the lines of "to be a jew is to wrestle with god". As I´ve said, religion is not a question of evidence and knowing. It is about believing. What would even constitute evidence against/in favor of God´s existence? In my mind, we can only provide "evidence" within contemporary materialist scientific framework. And God is of imaterial nature. A thought isn´t evidence. But feel fre to change my mind.
