Are there any books like Seinfeld?
Im thinking a pure comedy, set in everyday life, with characters just bickering and bantering

inherent vice basically, there's a plot but it's very easy to either deliberately ignore or lose track of so that you can just enjoy the banter. also make sure to watch the first 30 minutes of the movie adaptation beforehand, phoenix and brolin are perfectly cast and the dialogue flows much better if read with them in mind

>> No.19722045

Later Pynchon, Inherit Vice and Bleeding Edge. Also Catch-22 on the dialogue front.

Proust has Seinfeld-like moments-- long dinner parties where everyone chats about nonsense, long sequences where he's complaining about how much he hates his girlfriend, stuff like that. obviously not as casual though

Not quite the contemporary everyday vibe, but for the pure comedy, try P.G. Wodehouse.

Yes, there is. It's the best novel of all times.
It's called Tristram Shandy.

Seinfeld has that blue-collar tinge of lowlifers.
I prefer FRIENDS because of heart warming sincerity and more realistic milieu without that black culture influence.

Friends is just a terrible show. I can't think of a single redeeming quality it has outside of Jennifer Aniston's hard nipples. Seinfeld is to Friends what Shakespeare is to Bukowski.

>> No.19722430

Seinfeld and Friends were both pretty terrible, and are mostly just evidence of how overrated the entertainment of the 1990s really was. However, Seinfeld at the very least was actually funny.

Raymond Queneau's "Le Chiendent", "Zazie dans le métro", "Pierrot Mon Ami", and "Les Derniers Jours". Les Derniers Jours is pretty Seinfeld-esque. There's a running joke that one of the characters and his friends have really bad haircuts. Eventually one of them snaps a one-eyed man makes fun of his haircut at a bar. He casually walks out after paying for his drink and then comes back five minutes later. He silently walks up to the one-eyed man and gouges out his other eye. Definitely a Kramer move.
