Dante who wrote Dante's Inferno got away with it and he's like the worst self-insert of all time

>> No.19706367

Don't make it obvious that it's a self-insert and nobody will care. Raskelnikav, Aloysaksa Karmazeov, Yishima-mael, Humbert, Don Quijote, Ingnoyzius from Confederacy of Dunces, Judge Holden and The Cavern Man are all self-insert protagonists and nobody hates them

Make the self-insert suffer and don't give them any Anime wish fulfillment bullshit like a waifu or a harem or being the chosen one, they can win but don't wank them to be the most important person in the World and make them earn all their victory.

Dante built a interesting set of worlds occupied by popular, known figures to see through his own character without sucking his own dick too much, and without unrealistic engagements with those worlds, and people. He showed fear when faced with demons, disgust with the misery of the tortured souls, and curiosity to things he didn't understand in those worlds. It was also in Hendecasyllable which was commonly used, and invented the rhyme scheme Terza rima specifically for it. Between the content, and form it was in there was enough known content, and interest to overshadow the vanity.

Just make every single character in your story a self-insert of you so nobody notices. Self-insert into your protagonist, the protagonist's arch nemesis, the protagonist's best friend, the protagonist's love interest, the protagonist's parents, the protagonist's boss, the protagonist's coworkers, the protagonist's childhood bully, even characters unrelated to the protagonist. If your personality isn't 4-dimensional enough to create dozens of characters out of both good and evil, male and female, rich and poor, smart and stupid, optimistic and pessimistic, depressed and cheerful, succesful and losers, then you're NGMI as a writer

All of Goethe's narrative works are self-inserts. You simply have to be good at it.

This. You just have to imagine yourself playing out the characters role in the story.

Be a good enough writer (in the eyes of critics) or don’t make it obvious enough that most people notice
