Does anyone here read nonfiction? Why is it never discussed in any capacity?

>> No.19579048

>>19579007
because /lit/ is full of smoothbrain dopamine poisoned children who can barely cope with being alive

>> No.19579051

>>19579048
Wow this sounds personal to you

>> No.19579062

>>19579051
you wish any of this was personal to me

>> No.19579070

Yeah I read this book about octopuses someone here recommended me, I actually read nonfiction generally

>> No.19579430

>>19579070
So do I, but it seems nonfiction is wholly disregarded on this board. Not sure why.

>> No.19579599

>>19579007
If philosophy counts as nonfiction it is discussed all the time here

>> No.19579618

What are you talking about? You see ppl talk about nf here more than f just we don't mention a lot of secondary sources or reddit stuff like salt by kulowski or bannana crap etc. There's a topic. A nf general would be reddit and dillettante as hell

Because the /lit/ guy is deathly afraid of becoming the /sci/ guy. Pic related.

Non-fiction is a category, not a genre. Fiction is a category, not a genre. Under non-fiction there is a huge number of topics/genres (biographies, science, politics, philosophy, history, etc.). People read certain genres within non-fiction, but no one reads nonfiction qua nonfiction. If you do, you are most likely a pseud. Certain categories of non-fiction are discussed regularly on /lit/.

"literature" boils down to fiction (i.e. lies) while the subjects of non-fiction are different boards

>> No.19580077

>>19579655
That's true, but it feels like these threads often become too much /pol/ and they either get nuked or move to another board entirely.

Maybe that's why OP didn't pay much attention to them, because they don't live for long.

>> No.19580638

Pretty sure we usually have more threads on philosophy than on fiction here.

I can't understand a word you typed.

Show me one

>"literature"
Stopped reading there. Literature concerns the written word; ink on a page. Of which, there is plenty concerning material that hardly graces the catalog. I will not take this discussion to another board.

>Does anyone here read nonfiction?

Mostly history, yeah

>> No.19581416

>>19579007
I read a lot of nonfiction, especially about physics and law, but I refrain from posting about it because I worry it would be seen as off topic, and I don't want to shit up this board

>> No.19581474

>>19579007
>Why is it never discussed in any capacity?
Because this is the literature board.

/his/ and /sci/ are more appropriate to discuss non-fiction books.

>> No.19581505

>>19581387
>discussed regularly
philosophy history theology

>> No.19581522

>>19579007
>>19579430
plenty of people read non-fiction, it's just that non-fiction is usually about specific things so people go to their respective boards to discuss the content in the book rather than the book itself.
if i wanted to discuss neuroanatomy or figure drawing i wouldn't come to /lit/ to do it even though i learned about those things by reading literature

>> No.19581649

>>19581505
>philosophy
Wrong.
>history
Hmm, I suppose; I don't see much of it though.
>theology
C'mon, I'm more referring to STEM /lit/. All of what you listed, besides history, is discussed ad nauseam and I really don't think someone would consider any of those nonfiction.

You wouldn't be shitting it up. Thinking about making a nonfiction general where people can discuss these ideas in a constructive/contained manner.
>>19581474
I take offense to that suggestion.
>>19581522
Have you tried?

>> No.19581674

>>19581661
no and i won't ever try because the odds people here are educated on whatever topic i'm discussing are much lower than going to their specific board. just looking at that "neuroscience" thread on the catalog right now is all the evidence i need
