that would be in finnish. with the english transalations it really comes down to how tightly you want it to follow the metre of the original. crawford, kirby and more recently brooks follow the metre faithfully, whereas bosley made up his own metre. none of them are bad, just read what you can get your hands on.

Crawford and Kirby are not good and the meter was determined by the performer, it was not some rigid thing when Lönnrot compiled it and Lönnrot should not be views as 'correct.' Have not looked at Brooks.

If I knew how to easily find it I would have searched it out myself, it was mostly meant as a plea to other anons who may have saved it. OWC sacrificed the arbitrary meter for accuracy in meaning, Crawford and Kirby decided meter* was more important than accuracy and had no issues with bending meaning to the ideals of the time, Crawford sometimes reads more Victorian than Finnish Epic.

*I am taking that anons word on this, I honestly do not remember the meter, that was many ears ago that I compared them all.

my point wasn't really about the translations but about lönnrot. he compiled the oral tradition into an actual european style epic. that's the worthwhile thing, there's a reason the oral tradition died.
