You are writing an epic poem.
What metre do you use?

>> No.19338860

iambic pentameter obviously

What's your rhyme scheme? Do you invert? How often do you enjamb? Answer at once!

I don't know im a poetry beginner and I thought iambic pentameter was the iliad meter but apparently it was didactic hexameter or something, i checked a few minutes ago but i wont check it again

>> No.19339079

metre is like religious laws

pretends to be for the greater good but is really just pointless semantics

Blank verse, of course. Heroic couplets sound cheesy nowadays, ottava rime is best for comedy, terza rima and Spenserian stanzas are each too closely associated with a certain poet.

Spenserian stanza!
Ex.:

A: O I got a crime record as Bess, that
B: Queen o' Albion, o' the shimmerin'
A: Isles, grand land in which Golden Goose sat
B: Right upon th' eggs o' its closest kin,
B: A.K. Forty Seven maketh me sin
C: 'Tis th'instrument with which I dispense o'
B: Asinine donkeys who disrupt my din
C: So don't make me act th' corrupted fo',
C: We can cross swords, no mayhaps, toe to toe.

I believe Spenserian stanza has been exploited and modified by other poets. The University of Vermont has an amazing database tracing Spenser's influence on English poetry.
