Archaeology.

I've spent four years employed in the field, its exhausting work and yet simultaneously fulfilling.
Girls love it. I'm more /fit/ than I've ever been in my life, and I get to spend 95% of my time outdoors. Winters are cold though, especially where I live.

You have to find the good teachers they're rare & early on some intro level classes do heavily push either shallow identity politics or critical theory crap. Though even in those classes it's possible to learn just take what your teachers say with a grain of salt and be aware of where they're coming from. Had a career for a few years, then that got wrecked by the dot-com bubble, the outsourcing phenomenon, the guest-worker phenomenon, and finally the perfect-fit phenomenon. I'm lucky to be employed, but I don't feel lucky.

Nearly all of my peers are drooling morons that shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a piece of source code, and it's impossible to teach them anything. For one thing, they resent being informed that they're not the crown of creation.

I want to retire so badly, it hurts. But after watching my retirement savings get decimated by semi-regular market crashes, I doubt I'll ever be able to afford to do so.

I actually like my life outside of my soul-sucking career, but said career leaves me with no energy to do much else.

Even the marxist and feminist nonsense is bearable when you realize that it's 50% cope and 50% posing. What you need to understand is that 9 times out of 10, female professors who are really into deconstructing literature and School of Resentment style theory are BEGGING to get fucked by Big Canonical Cock. I am being serious. I am not being ironic. For my survey course of English lit from Beowulf to 1800, my professor fit this trope exactly; she was about 28, fairly cute (not an art hoe, but with shorter brown hair), and very into “fighting back” against traditional views of medieval literature. Queering Langland, "there were black people in the Middle Ages," all of that. On the first day, we discussed the concept of a literary canon, which she argued inherently favored those works produced by people in power. Needless to say, I disagreed. Because I happened to have a class in the next room right before her course, I was always the first to arrive, usually about 5 minutes before anyone else. We would have brief conversations, first about whatever material we were going to cover that day and then about random topics- other books and poems, little details of our lives, etc.

Slowly I began to realize she was dropping small hints of her sexual availability. Nothing too risqué. She would say things like "Old English poetry (she never said Anglo-Saxon because that was a 'white supremacist dogwhistle') is so elegiac, it always makes me lonely" or "anon, you might like this article on the York mystery plays, I found it very stimulating," etc. What's more, these hints always came after I said something to defend the canon or canonical authors and traditional interpretations. For example, one day I happened to namedrop Harold Bloom during a conversation about Shakespeare's use of the carnivalesque. She made a face, and I said "Love him or hate him, you have to admit Bloom presents a useful analysis of poetic influence across the history of English literature (or words to that effect)." She bit her lip, and for a second I wasn't sure if she was going to criticize our guy or what, but instead she mentioned that the Taming of the Shrew was playing at a local theater, subtly indicating she wished to go with me. We did end up going, and it was particularly fun to watch her watch Petruchio tame Katherine. She clearly loved it; I didn't bring it up, of course, but only a few days before she had said the play was irredeemably misogynistic. Needless to say, we had an enjoyable night.

Majoring in and practising law within the third world shithole I live in isn't as luxurious or fulfilling of an occupation as you'd think, on the contrary, it's way too fucking common to be coerced into choosing law as a last ditch effort if you fuck up in high school, since the system said high schools are based upon heavily relies on memorizing your curriculums without basically studying at all–perhaps a fraction of such has to be practically studied–.

I'm not saying I don't understand your point of view, being around that can be a downer for sure. But they're still people, and they still need someone to help them. I'm not saying I'm going to befriend all my patients or anything, I think you probably need to emotionally distance yourself somewhat, especially if you're a surgeon or in elderly care, THAT much isn't for me.
Personally my disdain for the exchange and barter system would make it very difficult for me to be tradesman.
Sure some rich fuckheads I could overcharge and do cheap under margins jobs for those struggling to get by and get by that way, but the whole selling yourself thing is never a principle of western society I've enjoyed.
I can put on the face and do it, especially if I get leeway in how I do my work, but I detest that sort of thing. CompSci, I have little passion for this field but it's bearable enough and job prospects are good. I had major imposter syndrome while working until I realized 99% of people employed are shockingly incompetent and are reliant on the few savants who do most of the work. Same with university.

His Major ---> Law school. Law school is a dumping ground for intelligent people who dont know what they want in life. I learned this the hard way. You dont have to! Also History is kind of shit, because it's such a "broad" topic. If you want to go into history think about what it is about history that you want to study. Classical Art History? 15th Century German Lit? Ptolemaic papyri translation? Each is "history", but to drill down into the academic side of things you need extensive language training, a focused course load, academic connections etc. Think hard about what you want. I wish I did.

Literally get a degree mill paper in IT or CS or get trade certs in electrical, hvac, or welding. There is no reason to waste money or time at a university. For that matter there is also no reason to waste time in high school when anybody with a pulse can test for a GED by age 14 then get straight to work on a BS online. I wish I had done that. Then you get a masters when the other kids are getting their bullshit degrees. You could have an mba and a masters in IT by age 22 and be on a fast track to becoming a CSO.

Did a maths major but enjoyed doing the breath subjects. Learnt Russian, studied history ranging from Republican China to madness, international politics and so on. Did a year of law school but now doing medicine starting next year. University is a thoroughly enjoyable experience if you go to the good ones. Middle or poor tier ones wouldn't have all those breath subjects I enjoyed and it's a pity universities are becoming a place of training and not learning. Very worrying how the humanities are being cut. Universities should be for the intellectual elite. We've seen what dissemination of the semblance of intelligence has afflicted on us. Stupid people should be kept out and told that they're stupid.

International business major concentrating in SCM with a philosophy minor. It's okay I guess. One time, I considered going phil major but after thinking about it quite a while, I decided to keep it as a hobby. Same as lit. Business or econ is a safe bet as a major if you're not interested in STEM so I went with that and surprisingly I like it. For now there's no regret. For now.

Depends where you live and what your abilities are.
I studied a history major being Mexican. It really wouldn't be the best idea, but considering I'm retarded for everything math related it probably was the best thing for me.
It opened me opportunities for teaching jobs that just require any major and didn't get in debt cause we have public universities here.
If debt and not getting a job related to your field aren't a problem for you, I'd say go for it. Study the major you're most interested in.
